A total of 1,228 IBAs cover 7% of the African region. A comprehensive network of IBAs has been identified across the 58 countries and territories of the African region. The effective protection and management of these sites, a relatively low percentage of the area of each country, is a realistic goal that would make a significant contribution to the conservation of many bird species. |
