General characteristics
These small Indonesian islands are in the Java Sea to the north-east of Java (see map, p. 494). They support one restricted-range species, Pink-headed Imperial-pigeon Ducula rosacea (see Secondary Area s107). A widespread threatened species, Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea (classified as Endangered), is represented on the islands by the endemic subspecies abbotti, of which only 810 individuals could be located in 1993 (Cahyadin and Arif 1994).
