Riau and Lingaa islands - Secondary Area

General characteristics

These island groups lie off the east coast of Sumatra (and immediately to the south of Singapore at the tip of the Malayan peninsula) in the Indonesian province of Riau (see map, p. 488). The natural vegetation is tropical lowland rain forest (Whitmore 1984). They support one restricted-range species, the threatened Silvery Wood-pigeon Columba argentina (classified as Vulnerable; see Secondary Area s101).
