General characteristics

This Secondary Area includes a narrow coastal strip in Gabon, Zaïre and Cabinda province of northern Angola (see map, p. 312). It is defined by the range of the threatened Loango Weaver Ploceus subpersonatus (classified as Vulnerable), which is found in swamp-forest, landward mangrove edge and savanna, habitats which are being converted to agricultural land in parts of its range. It is not recorded from the Congo, and may be absent because of a lack of appropriate habitats (Dowsett-Lemaire et al. 1993).
