South-west Nigeria - Secondary Area

Country/Territory Nigeria
General characteristics

This Secondary Area is defined by the range of the threatened Ibadan Malimbe Malimbus ibadanensis which is known from several localities within 110 km of the city of Ibadan in south-west Nigeria. However, it may prove to occur more widely as there are possible records from Owerri, east of the Niger river in Nigeria, and from Ghana (Elgood 1992, Morel and Chappuis 1992). It is classified as Critical because of the widespread habitat destruction which has occurred in south-west Nigeria, and it appears to survive only in small numbers in the few remaining forest patches there (Ash 1987, 1991, Elgood 1988).
