Summary/History
The tropical waters around Reunion support two endemic breeding seabird species, the Barau's Petrel (EN) and Reunion/Mascarene Petrel (CR). Other priority species here include: the Seychelles Warbler (VU), Eurasian Curlew (NT), Wedge-tailed Shearwater (LC), Audubon's Shearwater (LC), Dimorphic Egret (LC), Red-tailed Tropicbird (LC), White-tailed Tropicbird (LC), Red-footed Booby (LC), Brown Booby (LC), Masked Booby (LC), Greater Frigatebird (LC), Lesser Frigatebird (LC), Crab Plover (LC), Great Crested Tern (LC), Roseate Tern (LC), Black-naped Tern (LC), Bridled Tern (LC), Sooty Tern (LC), and Lesser Noddy (LC). France (Reunion) is a Contracting Party of the Nairobi Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Eastern African Region which covers the coastal environment and EEZ of France (Reunion). As part of the Convention France (Reunion) agreed to the Protocol Concerning Protected Areas and Wild Fauna and Flora in the Eastern African Region. The Protocol lists species which are protected under the convention and urges France (Reunion) and other Contracting Parties to Please see policy tab for list of agreements that this country is party to.
