Summary/History
The Comoros coastal zone waters support a number of threatened species, including the Madagascar Heron (EN), Madagascar Pond-heron (EN) and Eurasian Curlew (NT). On land all the IBAs have been mapped, including the Mwali highlands which are a regional priority for the Audubon's Shearwater (LC). Key threats include: o

Comoros is a Contracting Party of the Nairobi Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Eastern African Region which covers the coastal environment and EEZ of Comoros. As part of the Convention Comoros agreed to the Protocol Concerning Protected Areas and Wild Fauna and Flora in the Eastern African Region. The Protocol lists species which are protected under the convention and urges Comoros and other Contracting Parties to Please see policy tab for list of agreements that this country is party to.
