Summary/History
The Argentinian coastline is extensive, with many globally important seabirds sites. 8 species of Procellariform listed by ACAP regularly occur, the near endemic Olrog's Gull (VU) has its strong hold along the north east coast, while large colonies of Magellanic Penguin (NT) occur further south. A recent assesment of all coastal IBAs for seabirds has been undertaken by Aves Argentina (BirdLife in Argentina). Work in more pelagic areas has primarily been coordinated through the work of the Patagonian Forum, which has brought together Argentine tracking data for a number of species. The Seabird Campaign of Aves Argentinas is working with the National University of Austral Patagonia, and the fishing company Argenova SA, to identify and implement measures to reduce seabird bycatch in Argentina.

Key threats to Argentine seabirds include
o bycatch in long-line fisheries
o oil pollution and interaction with shipping vessells
o habitat modification and disturbance at many breeding and foraging areas
o unregulated tourism, recreation, and resource extraction activities

National priorities
o Revision of IBAs already identified relevant to a candidate marine IBA approach and investigation of potential new sites
o Collaborating with others including seabird researchers and Protected Area managers to review the applicability of IBA criteria to the marine sites identified
o Gather the technical and scientific information necessary to delimit the marine habitat component of marine IBAS initially regarding seaward extensions to breeding colonies
o Develop information and materials in support of public awareness activities
