This newly split species is listed as Near Threatened because it is thought to have a small population, with the majority of mature individuals in one sub-population, and is project to decline owing to expected habitat loss as mining operations and oil-palm cultivation expand. There is a discrepancy between available population estimates for this species, and better data may lead to its re-classification.
