Justification of Red List category
This species is confined to Tagula Island in Papua New Guinea where none were seen in 1992, some were heard in 2004 and small numbers were seen between 2012-14. Records are from forest above 120 m which is not currently impacted by logging or subsistence gardens. It is currently classified as Data Deficient but further study might lead to its re-classification as Vulnerable C2a(ii).

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 1,100 km2
