Site description (2000 baseline)
A large complex of aapa mires and raised bogs on the western side of Oulujärvi lake. The landscape is dominated by wet, low-ridged mires with numerous pools in the centre and drier sedge mires and forested fens towards the edges.

Key biodiversity
Probably the most important breeding area of Gavia stellata in the country. Also an important breeding site for many other peatland birds.
