Site description (2000 baseline)
A large eutrophic lake surrounded by farmland, in the vicinity of Oulu lake. The shores are fringed by narrow belts of Carex marsh, whilst the shallow waters support stands of Equisetum, Phragmites and Scirpus. Floating vegetation is also abundant. On the shores are numerous settlements whose people fish and hunt on the lake.

Key biodiversity
An important breeding area for Larus minutus.
