Site description (2009 baseline)
Located in Lijiang County, north-west Yunnan. Yulong Xueshan is the main submit of the Hengduan Shan’s Yunling ranges. Lijiang City lies 30 km south-east of Yulong Xueshan, and the plateau around the city is at c.2,400 m and is a major agricultural area. The Jinsha Jiang river valley runs to the north-west of Yulong Xueshan, and the vertical difference between the water surface and the summit is 3,000 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Psammosilene tunicoides, Coptis teeta and Torreya yunnanensis. Animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Panthera pardus, Felis temmincki, Ailurus fulgens, Selenarctos thibetanus and Macaca mulatta.
