Site description (2000 baseline)
The upper course of the River Lech is largely unregulated and its course has large areas of sand and shingle with surrounding riverine forest of Salix and Alnus, and extensive areas of Pinus on drier sites. The lower slopes of the valley are covered by intensively utilized conifer and mixed forests. The valley floor contains non-intensively managed grasslands, orchards and several settlements.

Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding upland forest species and breeding species associated with rivers, particularly with extensive shingle areas.
