Site description (2000 baseline)
A peninsula on the north-western coast of Saaremaa island, surrounded by a shallow (<20 m) sea with shallow (4 m) bays. There are many small lakes, forest, sand-dunes, coastal meadows and grasslands. The primary land-uses are fishing, and grazing of sheep and cattle.

Key biodiversity
The area is important for several waterbird species, notably Polysticta stelleri.
