Site description (2012 baseline)
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Anguilla (to UK) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 20972 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 5825 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.85 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.41 and 27.75 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.07 and 0.41 mg/m3.
Key biodiversity
6 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Saba coastline, Saba, Dog Island, Sombrero, Prickly Pear (East and West), Îlets les Petits Saints et Gros Islets, Tintamarre, Scrub Island include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Bridled Tern (LC) 405-648 individuals, Roseate Tern (LC) 273-399 individuals, Red-billed Tropicbird (LC) 2430-3180 individuals, Common Tern (LC) 30-51 individuals, Sooty Tern (LC) 135600-271200 individuals and Brown Booby (LC) 3011-4817 individuals.
