Site summary
This area is comprised of commercial fishponds and a national nature reserve, the Senné-rybníky fishpond. Wet meadows, bushes and solitary trees surround ponds, which are vegetated with dike macrophy- tes. Part of this area is used for fish-breeding and hunting. Agricultural activities are only marginal, but do include extensive cattle grazing. Senné is one of the most important nesting site for water birds. The fishpond system is the only place where Spoonbill and Avocet nest in Slovakia. Senné is one of the most important stop-over site for migrating waterbirds. The main threats to birds are related to fish breeding and the chemical elimination of vegetation from the water surface. The site is proposed as an SPA.
