Site description (2004 baseline)
The site consists of the vast Seda marsh (used for peat extraction) surrounded by forests, bordering the Seda river floodplain, including wet meadows, in the northern part. Peat extraction quarries gradually fill up with water and form a complex wetland system of ponds rich in emergent vegetation. Listed as an IBA since 2000 [3, 1]. Fully protected: there is a 98.7% overlap with the Seda marsh restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA. The gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is due to differences in methods in boundary setting.
