Site description (2003 baseline)
Originally this area consist of freshwater swamp and peat swamp extended to coastal. Conversion to transmigration area and oil palm plantation decrease the natural habitat. Drainage development in 1990 to convert the remaining natural habitat of this area into oil palm plantation. Although the oil palm plantation plan has been canceled and this give some hopes to protect this area, but clearence of forest still continue.

Key biodiversity
This area occured supports Ciconia episcopus and Cairina scutulata population (Yanuar kom. pri. to D. Holmes). Also record call of Grey-breasted Babbler Malacopteron albogulare (Holmes 1996). The record indicates that other lowland bird species probably live in this area. Follow-up survey is really needed immediatelly.
