Site description (2003 baseline)
Northern part of this island is fertile area and people clear the forest for dry land farming. The southern part is still forested. Around three villages concentrate in the north and east of the island. Most of people work as dry land farmer and fisherman. Main comodities are coconut, cashew fruit, coffee, cacao, clove and nutmeg.
Key biodiversity
Short survey in 2000 showed that the endemic bird of this island Damar Flycatcher Ficedula henrici still lives in this area. Blue-streaked Lory Eos reticula introduced to this island by visitor and now become very common.
