Site description (2002 baseline)
This IBA, situated at 660-770 m above sea level, is to large extent influenced by farming. In the 1970's, most of the area underwent intensive changes aimed at draining and creating large plots of land. Such fields were turned either into arable land or were intensively managed as meadows and pastures. This intervention led to a significant decrease in biodiversity of both flora and fauna. Overuse of fertilizers led to a boom of nitrophilous plants. The drop in the intensity of farming in some areas in the past fifteen years has led to creation of habitats favourable for the Corncrake.
