Site description (2007 baseline)
Okinoshima is an islet off of Fukuoka City having an area of 85 ha. The northwest and south sides of the islet are covered with deep forests mainly composed of Machilus tunbergii. Koyajima is a rocky reef situated about 1km south-southeast of Okinoshima. There are no trees covering the rocky reef leaving it almost naked except Carex oahuensis.
