Key biodiversity

IBA Trigger species: Yellow-eyed Penguin, Fiordland Penguin, Kaka, NZ Dotterel, Southern Brown Kiwi, Weka, Red-fronted Parakeet.

Besides the trigger species the following species are confirmed or likely to be breeding: Little Penguin, (Sooty Shearwater), Pied Shag, Little Shag, Spotted Shag, White-faced Heron, Paradise Shelduck, Australasian Harrier, Variable Oystercatcher, Banded Dotterel, Southern Black-backed Gull, Red-billed Gull, White-fronted Tern, NZ Pigeon, Yellow-crowned Parakeet, Shining Cuckoo, Morepork, NZ Kingfisher, NZ Pipit, Brown Creeper, Grey Warbler, South Island Fantail, South Island Tomtit, Stewart Island Robin, Silvereye, Bellbird, Tui, South Island Saddleback Hedge Sparrow, Blackbird, Yellowhammer, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Redpoll, Starling.
