Site description (2007 baseline)
The Mogamigawa river that runs in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture is one of the three main rapid streams in Japan. The Mogamigawa estuary is a wintering ground for some 10,000 swans. Besides the swans, wild ducks and sea gulls also visit this area. Peregrine Falcons and Goshawks/Northern Goshawks visit here to hunt for the waterfowl.
