The IBA encompasses part of the Kamp valley and the adjoining plateau. The river course is still unregulated. The slopes are covered by mixed and broadleaved deciduous forest, whilst areas with easier access have largely been replaced by conifer plantations. More open areas are dominated by arable agriculture, within a mosaic of hedgerows, hay-meadows, dry grassland, small wetlands and orchards.

Key biodiversity
The site is important for woodland species.
