Site description (2000 baseline)
A large brackish lake on the Romanian plain, fed by fresh water from the Ialomita river. There are small areas of aquatic vegetation, primarily along the western shore. Agricultural lands and fish-ponds form the surrounds.

Key biodiversity
This is an important breeding site for waterbirds, particularly ducks, and also passage and wintering waterbirds.
