Site description (2007 baseline)
A dam reservoir located on the border of hilly areas and plain fields in the middle part of Miyagi Prefecture, Lake Kejonuma has been maintained as a large reservoir for irrigation made in a valley of a hilly area. Trapa japonica thrive in the shallow water areas, while Phragmites australis and other hydrophytes grow along narrow zone of the shorelines. Although parks and other facilities are provided on the lakesides, other areas comprise paddy fields, fields, discontinuous secondary forests of Quercus serrata and Castanea crenata trees, plantation of Cyryptomeria japonica and scattered residential grounds -- an area of 'SATOYAMA' feature that is closely connected with human life.
