Site description (2000 baseline)
A complex of five adjacent wetlands and adjoining agricultural areas in the southern part of the Kangasala municipality. The lakes and bays are shallow and eutrophic, and surrounded mainly by forests. The farmland inside the IBA boundaries floods in spring, and provides valuable feeding grounds for wildfowl and waders. The area is strongly influenced by man and agriculture is intensive.

Key biodiversity
An important congregatory area for waterbirds, especially Mergus merganser. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (1-5 pairs, breeding).
