Site description (2007 baseline)
Hotokenuma is a lagoon formed near a coast of the Pacific Ocean, Aomori Prefecture, and the present landscapes have been formed by drainage works. The marsh has some sandy deposit due to sedimentation. On reed beds in the low lying areas where there is undergrowth of Carex and ferns, Japanese Marsh Warblersand Japanese Reed Buntingsbreed. This area being between the Pacific Ocean and Ogawarako,is an important stopover point for migrating birds such as White-fronted Goose and Bean Goose. (Ogawarako 6,320 ha, Uchinuma 85 ha, Anenuma 153 ha.)
