Site description (2004 baseline)
A large open raised bog, largely unaffected by drainage, with small lakes and several forested islands. Area encompasses parts of the surrounding forests, including the largest natural stand of European Hornbeam Carpinus betulus in Latvia. Listed in all previous IBA inventories since 1994 [4, 5, 1]. Almost fully protected: there is a 99.7% overlap with Dunika restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
