Site description (2002 baseline)
This site has a wide diversity of good repair habitats and so there is a high specific riches of avifauna.Woodland of evergreen oak (Q.ilex, Q.suber) and some dam with water-fringe vegetation.

Key biodiversity
In the dam is possible to see very waterbirds that occur in Portugal, including: Podiceps cristatus, Ixobrychus minutus, Ardea purpurea and Ciconia nigra. Also there are a wide diversity of raptors.In the steppic habitats Tetrax tetrax occurs in reproductive season and Otis tarda in post-reproductive season (about 10 individuals). It is also an important area for the threatened Falco naumanni, due to registered observations of this species in reproductive season.
