Site description (2007 baseline)
Aogashima island, which is located 67 km south of Hachijojima, is an oval islet with an area of 5.98 km2 and the circumference of 9 km. It is a typical double volcano with a caldera, and abrasion cliffs at a height of 50 m to 200 m can be seen along the coast.
