This newly split species is listed as Near Threatened because, although it is thought to have a very small and declining population, it occurs in two sub-populations, one of which appears to be much larger than the other.

Population size: 1000-2499 mature individuals

Population trend: decreasing

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 2,700 km2

Country endemic: yes
