Justification of Red List category
This newly-split plover has benefited from successful conservation management in parts of its range which has led to a overall increase in its population, although it remains conservation dependent and unmanaged parts of the population are stable or decreasing. The total population remains moderately small, and it it is therefore classified as Near Threatened. Further population increases might result in its downlisting in the future, but conversely any reversal of fortunes may warrant it being uplisted.

Population size: 1600

Population trend: Increasing

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 169,000 km2

Country endemic: Yes
