Justification of Red List category
This species is listed as Near Threatened because it has a moderately small range, being restricted to four very small islands. The population is currently considered stable as it is tolerant of habitat degradation; however, the accidental introduction of predators such as black rat Rattus rattus
or brown tree-snake Boiga irregularis
would cause the species to be uplisted.
