Justification of Red List category
This little-known species occurs on the smaller islands of the Louisiade Archipelago, Papua New Guinea. No ornithologists have visited these islands in recent years and whilst the most closely related myzomelas are common and adaptable species, this species's population, trend, habitat and threats are completely unknown. For these reasons, it is classified as Data Deficient.
