Justification of Red List category
This species is heavily targeted by trappers for the cage bird trade throughout its range and is suspected of undergoing a rapid population decline within the recent past, which is anticipated to be ongoing and to have already reduced numbers of mature individuals to below 10,000 globally.
For these reasons the species is evaluated as Endangered.

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 152,000 km2
