Site description (2000 baseline)
A series of raised bogs lying north of Höytiäinen lake. The area is dominated by dry, sparsely forested Sphagnum peatland with a few larger areas of open mire and small pools. The forest is mainly barren and Pinus sylvestris-dominated.
Key biodiversity
The most important staging area for Grus grus in eastern Finland. The site is also important as a breeding area for boreal birds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (max. 1 individual, passage).
