Site description (2000 baseline)
The site includes two lakes (Teutjärvi and Suvijärvi) connected by a narrow ditch at the mouth of the Kymi river. Teutjärvi is a large, shallow-shored lake with some reedbeds and surrounded by cultivated farmland. Fishing is regular, and the water-level has been artificially reduced to prevent flooding. Suvijärvi lake has extensive reedbeds.

Key biodiversity
Cultivated farmland around the lakes holds fairly good numbers of the globally threatened Crex crex. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (passage).
