Site description (2000 baseline)
A large area of palsa mire, numerous lakes and ponds and small forested islands east of Pöyrisjärvi lake in northern Finland. The major Pöyrisjoki river traverses the area. Situated far from settlements and roads, the area experiences virtually no human impact.

Key biodiversity
An important breeding area for Arctic peatland avifauna.
