Site description (2000 baseline)
A 1-km-wide, quiet, lake-like section of the Tornio river, near its mouth.

Key biodiversity
One of the most important staging areas for Cygnus cygnus in Finland. The area is less important as a breeding ground, with only a small number of birds breeding on some herb-rich, bushy islands on the river.
