It originates from the Mauritius Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 18741 km2 and is 376 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1 to 2111 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.2 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 25.76 and 26.27 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.08 and 1.97 mg/m3.
