It originates from the Egypt Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Mediterranean and Black Sea FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 796 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 5 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 22.92 and 23.09 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 2.93 and 3.97 mg/m3.
