Bornean coastal zone - Secondary Area

General characteristics

The mangroves and coastal scrub and forest along the southern and western coasts of Borneo are included in this Secondary Area, in the provinces of Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Tengah and Kalimantan Selatan in Indonesia, and in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak (see map, p. 484). One restricted-range species occurs here, Javan White-eye Zosterops flavus, which is otherwise known from the Javan coastal zone (EBA 161). It is common in southern Kalimantan, but only known from a single specimen in Sarawak (MacKinnon and Phillipps 1993).
