Justification of Red List category
This species was known from the Hawaiian Islands, USA, but it has not been recorded since a specimen was collected in 1859. Deforestation, hunting and introduced predators are likely to have contributed to this species' extinction.
Population justification
None remain.
Chaetoptila angustipluma is known historically only from the Big Island of Hawaii, USA. Only four specimens were ever collected, between 1840 and 1859 (Greenway 1967).
It was restricted to montane plateau forest and fed on nectar (Amante-Helweg et al. 2009).
Deforestation, hunting and introduced predators are likely to have contributed to this species' extinction.
