Justification of Red List category
This recently discovered species is only known from the type locality in the Peruvian Andes. Based on the current information, the population size may be moderately small to large, forming one or very few subpopulations, and the population is suspected to be declining due to habitat loss. Nevertheless, the species is thought to occur in vast areas of pristine, protected habitat and not to be severely threatened; hence the distribution range and population size may be larger than currently assumed. The species is listed as Near Threatened, but may be downlisted in the future if more detailed information becomes available.

Population size: 7000-34000 mature individuals

Population trend: decreasing

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 34,500 km2

Country endemic: yes
