Justification of Red List category
This species has a very large range, in which it can be common in the correct habitat and accordingly the population, while unquantified, is suspected to be large. The population trend is unknown but in the absence of significant threats is not believed to be declining at more than a slow or moderate rate, if it is declining at all. Consequently the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
Population justification
The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common across its range and locally abundant (del Hoyo et al. 2007). The population trend is difficult to determine because of uncertainty over the impacts of habitat modification on population sizes. This species' population in Laos is considered to be of high importance globally, with trends in this country (low to negligible) similar to those found in the species' previous global assessment (Timmins et al. 2024). This species is considered to have a medium dependency on forest habitat, which is estimated to be declining at a slow rate (Global Forest Watch 2024).
Trend justification
The population trend is difficult to determine because of uncertainty over the impacts of habitat modification on population sizes.
