Site location and context
The River Loire is the last unaltered and free-flowing large river in Europe. This site encompasses part of the river, sandy islets, marshes, wet grasslands and riverine forest. Human activities include arable farming and fishing.
The site is important for species which breed on the alluvial islets in the river.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
This site is threatened by urban and agricultural pollution.
National High
International Partial925 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (La Charité sur Loire, 18 km river, 925 ha). 1,400 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Val de Loire, 1,900 ha). 925 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (La Charité sur Loire, 925 ha).
