Site location and context
Pássaro Islet has a surface of 0.82 ha. It is located northwest of Boa Vista island, in front of Baía das Gatas beach. It is a flat islet covered with material of a sedimentary and sandy nature. It is connected to the main island by a string of reefs and volcanic rocks. The sandy substrate facilitates the existence of plant species (Zygophyllum fontanesii and Suaeda vermiculata) and these allow the nesting of White-faced storm petrel (Pelagodroma marina). The main threats are the direct capture of seabirds, the alteration and destruction of their habitat by trampling people visiting the islet.
Presence of vegetation (Zygophyllum fontanesii and Suaeda vermiculata) that allow the nesting of White-faced storm petrels (Pelagodroma marina). Is possible also found, in less number the Cape Verde Storm-petrel (Hydrobates jabejabe) and Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
