Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the Papua New Guinea Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 220777 km2 and is 62 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 4611 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.3 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 28.32 and 29.09 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.08 and 1.26 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 698276-1551724 individuals of Streaked Shearwater (LC) from Japan are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Nov-Feb) life-history stage.
